Privacy policy
This page tells you what we record, why, and for how long.
What we store
- Your username, gender, birthdate, and country. We need these to run the rooms.
- Your IP address, your approximate country, and your browser and device type. See "Your IP address and device" below.
- A random device id. Our page makes it and keeps it on your device, in the storage of your browser and in a cookie named
lantern_did. It is a random number. We do not measure your device to make it. - A one-way hash of your IP address, with a secret salt. We use it to enforce bans and rate limits.
- A session cookie so you stay logged in.
- Images you upload, for up to 24 hours. Then they are deleted. Before other people can see a photo or a GIF, we remove the location data, the device data and all other hidden data from the file.
- Voice notes you send, for up to 24 hours. Then they are deleted. We convert each recording to a new audio file with no hidden data, and we delete the original recording. We use the microphone only while you record.
- Moderation records: reports, bans, and hashes of blocked images.
- The first line of a private message request, until the request is answered or cleared. Reported messages are kept for review.
- Your two privacy settings, and the list of people you have a private conversation with.
- Which site or campaign brought you here, the first page you opened, and whether you chatted and came back.
Your IP address and device
When you open the site, join a room, or stay in a chat, we record:
- your IP address,
- your approximate country,
- your browser, your operating system, and your device type (phone, tablet, or computer),
- the random device id,
- the time of your first visit and your last visit.
We also save your IP address with a report you send, with an image or a voice note you upload, and with a ban.
Why we record this.
- Security and abuse handling. We use it to stop people who come back after a ban and groups that send spam.
- Legal reports. A report about illegal content to the authorities needs the real IP address and the time.
- To understand our audience. We look at which devices and browsers people use, so the site works well on them.
How long we keep it. 90 days after your last visit. Then we delete it. A ban, a report, and the record of an image or a voice note stay longer, but after 90 days we remove the IP address from them. A ban keeps only the hashed form of the address, so the ban still works.
Who sees it. The moderators of this site. We give it to the authorities when the law requires it. We do not sell it and we do not share it with advertisers.
No outside trackers of our own. We use no third-party analytics, and we run no advertising trackers of our own. We do not use fingerprinting.
What we do not store
- Chat messages. Room history lives for 1 hour and private message history for 24 hours, on our server for that time and are then deleted. We keep them longer only in the two cases above: the first line of a message request, and messages in a report.
- Passwords or email addresses. Guest accounts have none.
Third parties
- Cloudflare sits in front of the site and sees network traffic.
- If advertising is enabled, the ad network may set its own cookies. See its policy.
- Links to live cam sites are affiliate links. We do not share your data with them.
- If you came from an ad, we can tell that ad network that its click led to a join. We send the click id the network gave you and nothing else.
Deletion
Guest accounts expire with the session. Your IP address and device data are deleted 90 days after your last visit.
To ask for deletion before that, or for deletion of a moderation record, use the Report abuse page. Include your username and the date. We can refuse to delete data that we need for an open report or that the law tells us to keep.
