Sexting etiquette and consent in text chat, with example lines

By the Horny Live team. Updated .

Good sexting etiquette has one base rule: ask first, and stop when the answer is not a clear yes. In text chat, you cannot see a face, so you ask with words and you check in with words. "No", "not now" and silence all mean stop.

Ask before you start

An adult room tells you that people are open to adult talk. It does not tell you that a specific person wants it with you, at this moment. Ask that person.

You can ask in a light way. A question does not spoil the mood. It shows that you are safe to talk to.

Lines for asking:

  • "I like where this goes. Do you want to make it more flirty?"
  • "Can I tell you what is on my mind? It is not very innocent."
  • "Are you in the mood for something spicy, or is easy talk better tonight?"
  • "Tell me what you like and what is off the table."
  • "Is a private message OK, or do you like it better in the room?"

A clear yes sounds like "yes", "go on", or "I want that". "Maybe", "haha" and a change of topic are not a yes.

Ask again when the level changes

A yes to flirty talk is not a yes to everything. When you want to go further, ask again. The same is true for a new topic, a kink, a roleplay scene, or an image.

Check in while you chat

Text hides tone. A person can go quiet because they enjoy the moment, or because they feel bad. You cannot know, so you ask.

Short check-in lines:

  • "Still good for you?"
  • "Too fast, too slow, or just right?"
  • "Do you want more of this, or something different?"

One check-in every few minutes is enough.

Match the pace

Look at how the other person writes. If they write two lines, do not answer with a wall of text. If they take their time, do not send five messages in a row.

Good pace rules:

  • Send one message, then wait for the reply.
  • Match the length and the heat of the other person.
  • Do not push for a faster reply. People chat on phones, and life interrupts them.

"No" and silence mean stop

If a person says no, stop. Do not ask why. Do not try again with different words. A short, kind answer is enough: "No problem. Thank you for telling me."

Silence is also a no for now. On this site, a first private message is a request. If the other person does not accept it, you cannot write again. An ignored request looks the same to you as a request that waits. The site works this way on purpose. Read how private message requests work for the details.

Pressure after a no is harassment. Harassment is banned here, and users can report it.

Lines for saying no

You do not need a reason to say no. These lines are clear and polite:

  • "I am not in the mood for that. Normal chat is fine."
  • "Not my thing, but thank you for asking."
  • "I want to stop here. Take care."
  • "Please do not send me that."
  • "No. Do not message me again."

If a person does not accept your no, do not argue. Tap the username and choose Ignore. If the person harassed you, choose Report too.

No images without a yes

Never send a sexual image that the other person did not ask for. An image that nobody asked for is a fast way to get a report.

The site helps with this rule. In private messages, you can send images only after the other person accepts your request. The site also checks each image automatically before people see it, and it deletes images after 24 hours. The guide to the image sharing rules has the full list.

Ask in words first: "Do you want to see a photo?" Then wait for a yes.

Do not save or share

What a person tells you or sends you in a chat is for you only. Do not take screenshots to show other people. Do not post private messages or images in a public room. The site bans the sharing of private messages and images of other people.

Also protect yourself. Do not send an image that shows your face together with your body. Do not share your real name, phone number or social media. The guide on adult chat safety and scams explains how blackmail with screenshots works.

Age and the 18+ rule

Everyone here must be 18 or older. You enter your date of birth and confirm your age before you chat. If a person says or hints that they are under 18, stop at once and report the user.

The rule also covers fiction. Content that involves minors is banned here, real or fictional. That includes "age play" with characters under 18. It causes an instant removal and a ban.

End a chat kindly

You can leave at any time. A short goodbye is polite and takes five seconds:

  • "That was fun. I must go now. Good night."
  • "Thank you for the chat. Take care."
  • "I am going to stop here. Have a good evening."

If you can, do not vanish in the middle of a scene. Private message history lasts 24 hours, and names are not permanent. Say what you want to say now.

You can use all of this in the sexting chat room or the sex chat room. If you want to play a character, read roleplay chat for beginners.

Questions

Ask in a flirty way and keep it short. A line such as "Do you want to make this more spicy?" is a real question, and it fits the mood. A person who feels safe with you usually chats more freely.

Does silence mean yes in a chat?

No. Silence means stop for now. The person can be busy, unsure, or not interested, and you cannot tell which. Wait for a clear yes in words before you continue or go further.

Is it OK to send a nude photo in an adult chat room?

Only if the other person asked for it, or gave a clear yes when you asked. An image that nobody asked for is harassment, and users can report it. On this site, images in private messages work only after the other person accepts your request.

Can I save or screenshot a sexting chat?

Do not do it without permission from the other person. Private chats are for the two people in them. This site bans the sharing of private messages and images of other people, and a moderator can ban a user for it.
